Hatherleigh Town Council were delighted to be able to support Hatherleigh Town and Hatherleigh Youth Football Club’s joint campaign to create a new all-weather football pitch on land adjacent to their current grass pitch.
Increasingly wet winters mean that the clubs’ grass pitches are easily waterlogged, resulting in cancelled matches and less opportunities for players to train. The creation of a new, high quality artificial pitch will not only help over 180 local children play football in the town all year round, but will also give the community access to an excellent facility as well.
The Town Council’s donation meant that the first phase fundraising target was met and the clubs are now starting on the next phase of fundraising to allow the design and planning of the pitch to be undertaken.
Hatherleigh Mayor, Mark Reddaway, presented a cheque for £7,500 from Hatherleigh Town Council to Head Coach, Adam Hill, at one of the youth team’s recent matches.
