Retired Councillor Dennis Bater receives an award from Hatherleigh Town Council at the Annual Parish Meeting on May 9th. The specially commissioned plate made by Hatherleigh Pottery was presented by Mayor Clare Tyson as a token of recognition for his long service to Hatherleigh Town Council. Dennis Bater served the Town Council for 39 years including three separate spells as Mayor before retiring in 2015. He also served 20 years at West Devon Borough Council.
Dennis has played a part in many changes to Hatherleigh over that time, changes which include the bypass, housing estates, the nursing home, Community Centre, and works of Art. He also helped the town overcome its problems following the Foot and Mouth outbreak and the rebuilding of the George Hotel after the fire.
